Suffering from chronic lower back pain can affect your ability to sleep, work, exercise, and spend time with family and friends. If you’ve been Googling “chiropractor near me in Columbus, GA” because you’re looking for relief for lower back pain, the McKenzie method may help. Here’s a look at McKenzie exercises for low back pain so that you can get back to a happy, healthy, pain-free life.

Prone Lying

This can be performed while lying on your stomach, with or without a pillow. While lying on your stomach with your arms at your side, turn your head to the side or face-down. Push upwards on the floor with your arms so that your shoulders and chest rise up from the floor and hold the position for two or three minutes. Rest, then repeat up to eight times.

Prone Lying While Resting on Elbows

Lie on your stomach and prop yourself up on your forearms, keeping your shoulders above your elbows. Hold the position for two to three minutes, then lower your upper body. Repeat up to eight times.

Prone Push-Ups

Lie on your stomach and place your hands under your shoulders. Slowly straighten your arms so that your upper body is lifted off of the floor. Hold for two seconds and then return to your starting position. Repeat ten times.

Lying and Sitting Flexion

Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor and at hip-width apart. Bring both of your knees upwards toward your chest while keeping your tailbone on the ground. Hold for two seconds, and then return to your starting position. Repeat up to six times. For a sitting flexion, sit on the edge of a chair and straighten your back with your feet flat on the floor. While bending forward, reach your hands between your legs towards the floor and hold for two seconds. Return to your starting position and then repeat six times.

Standing Extension

While standing up straight, place your hands on the small of your back. Bend backwards as far as possible while keeping your knees straight. Hold this position for two seconds, and then return to your starting position. Repeat ten times.
